| Estimating prices US-UK | Replace the Dollar sign with the Pound sign. Except for gasoline, in which case, multiply by 4. |
| Starbucks and Borders Books | These are, unfortunately, everywhere. And the half-pound of House Blend that you buy in the US for $4.95 costs £4.95. |
| Banking | The British have had many hundreds of years to make banking as difficult and frustrating as possible and they have used that time to great effect. |
| The Trades | Getting, say, a joiner (carpenter) to agree to do work for you guarantees that you will not see him again. I guess that is true all over. |
| Sunlight | In mid-November, the Sun rises around 7:30AM and sets around 4:00PM. It won't be any better in December. |
| Yoghurt | You can buy yoghurt in just about any flavor, including rhubarb. You can not buy plain. Ooops. Yes you can. Nevermind. |
