Play

England

We lived in York, England from August, 1999 through mid July, 2000, courtesy of the Atlantic Fellowship in Public Policy. While we were there, Mary Ellen was affiliated with the University of York Center for Housing Policy, and studied UK government strategies for addressing those who sleep rough. Kelly played full-time daddy, and the kids went to school. Mildred got to play full-time grandma. The Pictures section includes many images from our stay in York and from our travels around the UK, Ireland, Belgium and Germany--and there is a special section for UK pictures (of sights, rather than family.) We wrote impressions of some of our experiences during the year including: our arrival, seeing our house for the first time, going out for our anniversary, staying in Brussels and in Brugge, and meeting the American Ambassador and the British Prime Minister.

Fitting In

We also noted some of the differences in British and American English, realized what we didn't know about before we arrived, and made a half-hearted attempt to list what we liked and didn't like.

Beer

One of the elements of English life we really enjoyed was the beer. The Beer Research Project chronicles our adventures, including some of some of our favorite beers and pubs. Belgians have good beer, too.
