Wales, May, 2000

We visited Cardiff for a Fellows meeting, then travelled north to Snowdonia to visit castles and drive through the hills.

We spent a couple of days in Cardiff. The grownups (er, the Fellows) spent the days in meetings and the spouses and kids played. Mom-mom, the kids and I went to Techniquest, a hands on science exhibition for kids, where they got to do fun things like launch a hot air balloon and go through a mirror maze.

Cardiff Castle is a fantastic, over-the-top former residence. It is well worth the visit and tour. We went with Fellow spouses and kids. This picture shows nearly all the kids in the Program. In the background is part of the older castle, which provides a nice view of downtown Cardiff.

We also visited the Museum of Welsh Life, in St. Fagans. The exhibitions are nearly all outdoors, showing the houses and shops and activities of rural life in Wales.

After a couple of days in Cardiff (where the really big treat was swimming in the pool at the hotel), we headed north. We drove through the scenic Brecon Beacons national park, then up to Snowdonia national park. We stayed in a great B&B near Caernarfon. From the B&B we had a view of the town, the famous castle and the water.
