Merry Christmas
We're half way through the winter break from school. The weather has been pretty nice, so the kids have spent a lot of time working on their skateboard skills. When indoors, Katie has been in lava lamp nirvana and Sean in Lego heaven. And there are Gameboys, now, too.

Happy Christmas Eve

High bar
The rings were set up closest to our seats, so I was able to take the best pictures of the routine. Sean did his best high bar routine so far.
Pommel horse
Sean turned in his best pommel horse routine so far, except for a little bobble on the landing.
Second Gymnastics Meet
Depsite flaky scoring and a chaotic awards presentation, the team did well and Sean did fine again. Here Sean is doing the parallel bars routine.

British Toll Roads
Toll road comes to Britain. I don't recall ever realizing that there were no toll roads. We experienced the traffic on the M6 in Birmingham, though, and it seems like a good place for some relief, even at $4.80 a pop.
Shakin
We had a magnitude 4.5 earthquake this afternoon, which was exciting for a few minutes. I was on the phone with a colleague a few miles away, so I knew it wasn't just me. Within minutes info was on the USGS site, which was pretty impressive.

It's starting to look a lot like...
... December of last year! We got about 4 inches of snow over night.

First Snow
Katie was thrilled to see the snow start last evening and went to sleep assuming there would be no school today. Well, about 2 inches of snow is on the deck, with more falling, and no word whether school is closed. Update: 2 hour delayed opening.

Fried bird
The turkey fryer worked great. It doesn't look like the safest way to go, with 4 gallons of very hot oil perched on a stand, but it got the job done in 45 minutes. The bird tasted great - crispy skin and very moist meat.
Thanksgiving
We had a really nice Thanksgiving in upstate NY. John and Joan tried deep frying a turkey -- and it worked. It even snowed a bit and the kids got out in the snow and walked through the woods.
